Spain or the Kingdom of Spain (Reino de España) is a country in south - western Europe with parts of region in the Atlantic Ocean and across the Mediterranean Sea. Spain is the largest country in Southern Europe and the 2nd largest country in Western Europe. 58 million tourists went to Spain every year, making it the 4th most visited country in the world.

*    1492 - Kingdoms of Castle and Aragon conquer the Emirate of Granada, ending nearly 800 years of Islamic rule in the south and founding modern Spain as a united states.

*    1931 - The Spanish Constitution was approved by the Constituent Assembly.

*    1986 - Spain joins the European Economic Community (EEC), later to become the European Union (EU).
